About

I'm Russ Gohl. My dad founded Richemont Solutions, and I run it. The company builds websites and runs online ads for local service businesses, mostly in South Orange County.

I live in South Orange County, California, and I'm originally from Illinois. This site is where I write about my work in the open, in my own words and under my own name. It is not a front for anything: when a note mentions Richemont Solutions or links to it, the link says so, and every page carries a disclosure.

What I do all week

Most of my week is spent helping owners of local service businesses get found by the people already searching for them. In practice that means:

  • Building and fixing websites so a customer can see what you do, where you work and how to reach you in a few seconds.
  • Setting up and cleaning up Google listings, so the name, hours and service area match what is on the website.
  • Tracking where calls and requests come from, so an owner knows which part of their marketing is doing something.
  • Running online ads for the businesses that want them.
  • Talking with owners about what is working, what isn't, and what is not worth paying for.

The notes on this site come out of those conversations. The same questions keep coming up, so I write the answers down once in plain English.

Away from the screen

I take photographs, and I do live audio and video for events. I like electronic dance music, and I like watching baseball. I'm a Christian, and church is a big part of my life.

How I write these notes

  • Short notes on websites, Google listings, reviews and tracking where your calls come from.
  • Advice you can use without hiring anyone.
  • Honest limits: where I don't know something, or where nobody does, I say that.
  • Promises about rankings or lead counts. Nobody can make those honestly.
  • Made-up numbers, reviews or client stories.
  • Pages pretending to be someone else's opinion.
